About Girls 4 Ganja

Real Girls. Real Ganja.

What began as a photo project by Boston photographer Scott Gacek to boost awareness for the marijuana reform movement in Massachusetts in late 2008 has quickly grown and evolved into a powerful force, opening the door to reshaping and redefining women’s roles within the marijuana subculture and reform movement itself, as well as changing the perception of female cannabis users.  The idea was simple: break the stereotype of the typical “pothead” and showcase everyday women who enjoy recreational use of marijuana, while at the same time demonstrating that it’s okay to come out of the “cannabis closet”.

As the Girls 4 Ganja project grew, we became a community, a family. Many of the 2009 crop of Girls 4 Ganja have become friends, and a louder combined voice for marijuana reform. The Girls 4 Ganja have appeared at numerous MassCann/NORML events, the Boston Freedom Rally, and raised over $1,000 at our 2009 Holiday Ball and Bake Off. We have protested re-crimanlization efforts, collected signatures for medical marijuana legislation in Boston, and helped raise general awareness for important rallys and events sponsored by MassCann, the state NORML chapter.  Girls4Ganja.com has transformed into a high traffic website providing current news and education in an entertaining format. Our facebook page encourages interaction and information sharing among users, and provides instant updates to thousands of fans around the world.

Girls 4 Ganja has outgrown the confines of our Boston home, and is no longer simply a photo project, although photography continues to be a large part of Girls 4 Ganja. As we enter 2010, we are gowing our network to cities around the country and around the world. We are always looking for kind supporters who would like to be active in their communities. Whether you’re a model, photographer, artist, writer, activist, mother, sister, daughter or grandmother, please contact us to get involved.

Look for 2010 to be a year of exponential growth and change for Girls 4 Ganja. If you like our photos, don’t worry, they’re not going away. But we’ll be bringing you new videos, including news updates, cooking instructional videos, and smoking entertainment. We’ll be launching a merchandise store with exclusive items designed by Girls 4 Ganja, as well as G4G branded merchandise. We will be planting seeds nationwide, expanding the Girls 4 Ganja to cities including Phoenix, Atlanta, Philladelphia, Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago and Montreal. Most importantly, we’ll be launching the Girls 4 Ganja Foundation, to provide grants to empower female activists within the marijuana reform movement.
